Anterior ichemic optic neuropathy following the ue of a naal decongetant

PURPOE: To report a cae of equential anterior ichemic optic neuropathy temporally related to the equential ue of a decongetant naal pray. METHOD: A 43-year-old woman wa evaluated for equential bilateral viion lo following the ue of oxymetazoline naal pray. REULT: Thorough invetigation of poible etiologie cauing the bilateral anterior ichemic optic neuropathy wa negative. Our patient had everal predipoing rik factor for ichemic optic neuropathy, including diabete mellitu, hypertenion, and crowded optic nerve head. Before each acute optic neuropathy, the patient ued two to three puff of oxymetazoline naal pray. CONCLUION: Decongetant have been aociated with ichemic and hemorrhagic vacular event. Vaocontriction econdary to oxymetazoline ue may precipitate anterior ichemic optic neuropathy.
