Idiopathic giant retinal tear in identical twin

PURPOE: To report idiopathic unilateral giant retinal tear with retinal detachment in identical twin that occurred 2 week apart. METHOD: Cae report. REULT: In both patient, giant retinal tear and retinal detachment wa treated with par plana vitrectomy, placement of encircling cleral buckle, fluid-perfluorocarbon exchange, endolaer treatment, perfluorocarbon-air exchange, and 16% perfluoropropane injection. One year after retinal detachment urgery, cataract developed in both potoperative eye. Phacoemulification with poterior chamber intraocular len implantation wa performed on both eye. Three and a half year after retinal urgery, corrected viual acuity in both treated eye wa 20/20, and retinal reattachment wa ucceful. CONCLUION: To our knowledge, thi i the firt report of idiopathic giant retinal tear in identical twin and raie the iue of genetic influence in the pathogenei of thi dieae.
