Cataract, bilateral macular hole, and rhegmatogenou retinal detachment induced by lightning

PURPOE: To report ocular injurie, including a unilateral rhegmatogenou retinal detachment, induced by lightning. METHOD: Cae report. A 30-year-old man wa injured by lightning. REULT: The patient developed a evere decreae in viual acuity in both eye, an afferent pupillary defect in hi left eye, bilateral cataract, poterior vitreou detachment, macular hole, and an inferotemporal retinal detachment with an aociated flap retinal tear in hi left eye. CONCLUION: Thi i a cae of bilateral cataract, poterior vitreou detachment, macular hole, and a unilateral retinal detachment aociated with lightning. We potulate that the heating of the retinal urface, the concuive force on the eye, and a udden lateral contraction of the attached vitreou reulted in bilateral poterior vitreou detachment and a unilateral peripheral retinal break.
