Abstract
PURPOE: To report two cae in which topical brimonidine reulted in apparent central nervou ytem depreion and unreponivene in an infant.
METHOD: Review of two patient. An 11-day-old infant became lethargic and apneic after a ingle drop of brimonidine. Thee ymptom were reproduced after a econd adminitration of brimonidine. A 5-month-old infant became lethargic and poorly reponive after receiving 1 drop of brimonidine in each eye.
REULT: The firt patient required admiion to the hopital for medical tabilization. He recovered without equelae. The econd patient recovered pontaneouly approximately 2.5 hour after adminitration of brimonidine.
CONCLUION: Topical brimonidine may be aociated with central nervou ytem depreion in infant. The ue of brimonidine i not recommended in thee patient until further data are available.
