Abstract
PURPOE: To report a new eyedrop dipening container that allow adminitration of eyedrop while the head of the patient i in the uual upright poition.
METHOD: An eyedrop dipening container with a dip tube extending to the bottom, an automatic venting mechanim, and an angulated dipening tube wa developed.
REULT: The problem of unwanted efflux of fluid wa olved by incorporating the automatic venting mechanim. The final deign include an adjutable, angulated dipening tube and “ingle tructure” contruction incorporating the cap. A removable cheek ret i alo provided. The deign allow eyedrop to be intilled while the patient’ head i in the upright poition and even when pectacle are being worn. A prototype 15-ml bottle delivered an eyedrop volume of 19.7 ± 1.2 μl (mean ± D) (n = 75).
CONCLUION: Thi new eyedrop bottle hould allow precie elf-adminitration of eyedrop by a patient in front of a mirror, without a need to change head poition.
