Eyelid tumor: accuracy of clinical diagnoi

PURPOE: To determine the accuracy, pecificity, and enitivity of the clinical diagnoi of malignant tumor of the eyelid. METHOD: Analyi of conecutively ubmitted biopy pecimen of the eyelid for 1 year to a regional ophthalmic pathology laboratory. REULT: Agreement wa noted between clinical and hitopathologic diagnoe on 72 (84%) of 86 eyelid biopy pecimen received over 12 month. Ten (11.6%) clinical diagnoe of upected malignant eyelid tumor howed benign kin condition, and four (4.6%) clinical diagnoe of preumed benign condition proved to be malignant. CONCLUION: The clinical aement of eyelid malignancy by ophthalmologit i reaonably good when evaluated in term of enitivity (87.5%) and pecificity (81.5%) of diagnoi. Leion giving rie to the fale-negative diagnoi of malignancy tend to be nodule with unremarkable urface feature.
