Abstract
PURPOE:
To preent clinical and hitologic finding of intraocular infection with Mycobacterium bovi–bacille Calmette-Guérin after intraveicular bacille Calmette-Guérin injection for treatment of bladder carcinoma.
METHOD:
A 77-year-old man wa initially een with viual acuity of 20/200, focal retiniti, vaculiti, and progreive vitreou opacity in the right eye and viual acuity of light perception, intraocular inflammation, and a dene cataract in the left eye 14 month after intraveicular injection of live bacille Calmette-Guérin organim.
REULT:
Vitreou culture in the right eye demontrated growth of bacille Calmette-Guérin organim. Bilateral lo of light perception occurred depite ytemic antimycobacterial therapy. Hitopathologic examination demontrated nongranulomatou inflammation and acid-fat bacilli in both eye.
CONCLUION: Delayed endogenou endophthalmiti may develop after intraveicular bacille Calmette-Guérin injection that may not repond to ytemic agent. Intravitreal therapy may be indicated.
