Abstract
PURPOE: To look for aociation of preoperative A-can ultraound ocular dimenion with complication during phacoemulification in eye with peudoexfoliation.
METHOD: A total of 174 eye with peudoexfoliation of 135 patient undergoing planned cataract urgery were included in a prognotic tudy baed on the review of a clinical databae. Preoperatively, A-can ultraound examination with meaurement of anterior chamber depth, len thickne, and total axial length wa performed. Phacoemulification with implantation of a poterior chamber intraocular len wa performed by a total of five urgeon. Intraoperative complication (zonular dialyi and/or vitreou lo) were correlated with preoperative finding including ultraound dimenion. Multivariate logitic regreion analyi with a generalized etimating equation method wa ued for tatitical analyi.
REULT: Intraoperative complication occurred in 12 eye (6.9%) of 11 patient. The anterior chamber wa ignificantly hallower in eye with than in eye without complication (mean, 2.36 ± 0.44 mm v 2.74 ± 0.52 mm; P = .013). The difference in len thickne (4.93 ± 0.55 mm v 4.72 ± 0.54 mm; P = .30) and the difference in axial length (22.92 ± 1.09 mm v 23.66 ± 1.36 mm; P = .07) between the two group did not reach tatitical ignificance. In eye with peudoexfoliation, an anterior chamber depth of le than 2.5 mm wa aociated with a rik of 13.4% for intraoperative complication compared with an overall incidence of intraoperative complication of 6.9% and an incidence of 2.8% for an anterior chamber depth of 2.5 mm or more.
CONCLUION: A mall anterior chamber depth may indicate zonular intability in eye with peudoexfoliation yndrome and hould alert the cataract urgeon to the poibility of intraoperative complication.
