Abstract
PURPOE: To report experimental tudy and clinical obervation of cleral outfolding for macular tranlocation.
METHOD: In ix human cadaver eye , circumferential mattre uture to create clera infolding were compared with radial-interrupted mattre uture to create cleral outfolding. In a 75-year-old man with macular degeneration and choroidal neovacular membrane, radial-interrupted mattre uture were ued for macular tranlocation.
REULT: In the human cadaver eye, circumferential mattre uture for cleral infolding created an average decreae in correponding internal anteropoterior retinal contour of 0.36 mm. Radial-interrupted mattre uture for cleral outfolding created an average decreae in the correponding internal anteropoterior retinal contour of 4.61 mm. The tatitical ignificance of the difference between infolding of the clera veru outfolding of the clera had a P value of .0001.
CONCLUION: Initial experimental and clinical tudy ugget that radial-interrupted mattre uture may generate more hortening of the internal cleral urface and greater macular tranlocation than circumferential mattre uture. Additional tudie are needed to evaluate the long-term effect of radial-interrupted mattre uture and macular tranlocation for treatment of ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization econdary to age-related macular degeneration
