  • Abstract
PURPOE: To evaluate the outcome of macular hole urgery in highly myopic eye and to compare thee outcome with a control group of eye that were not everely myopic. METHOD: The tudy deign wa a matched, cae-control, retropective chart review. The participant included 26 eye of 24 patient who had vitreou urgery for macular hole. The eye were divided into two group: 13 conecutive eye with evere myopia (defined a −6.00 diopter of refractive error or greater) and 13 control eye without evere myopia that were operated on immediately before or after each tudy eye, with the mot recently operated eye choen. The main outcome parameter were preoperative and final follow-up viual acuity, macular hole cloure rate, reoperation rate, duration of preoperative ymptom, and follow-up time. REULT: Uing the nellen equivalent of logarithm of minimal angle of reolution (logMAR) unit, viual acuity improved after macular hole urgery in everely myopic eye from 20/152 to 20/89 (P = .041) and in control eye from 20/152 to 20/47 (P < .001). At final follow-up, viual acuitie were lower in everely myopic eye compared with control eye (P = .048). Macular hole cloure rate, reoperation rate, duration of pre-operative ymptom, and follow-up interval were not ignificantly different tatitically between group. CONCLUION: Macular hole urgery reult in anatomical and viual improvement in everely myopic eye but generally yield poorer viual acuity outcome compared with eye that are not everely myopic.
