  • Abstract
PURPOE: To report aociation between prognoi, total tumor necroi, cleriti, and epicleriti in choroidal and ciliary body melanoma. METHOD: In thi retropective obervational hitopathologic tudy, 157 totally necrotic melanoma and 177 melanoma that were not totally necrotic of choroidal and ciliary body were retrieved from the Regitry of Ophthalmic Pathology. The eye were examined for the hitologic evidence of inflammatory cell within the clera and epicleral tiue. Contingency table, Kaplan-Meier, and Cox proportional hazard regreion analye were performed. In the urvival analye, only death with metatatic melanoma were conidered a event in the tatitical analyi. REULT: Among the totally necrotic melanoma, 118 of 157 (75.1%) had both epicleriti and cleriti; two of 157 (1.3%) had cleriti only; 29 of 157 (18.5%) had epicleriti only; and eight of 157 (5.1%) had neither epicleriti nor cleriti. Among the non-necrotic melanoma, 23 of 177 (12.9%) had both epicleriti and cleriti; eight of 177 (4.5%) had cleriti only; 71 of 177 (40.1%) had epicleriti only; and 75 of 177 (42.3%) had neither epicleriti nor cleriti. Cox regreion indicated that total necroi and cleriti were prognotically ignificant (P < .05) when analyzed univariately but not ignificant when analyzed multivariately with tumor ize. CONCLUION: cleriti and epicleriti were tatitically ignificantly aociated with total tumor necroi. There wa a higher incidence of epicleriti than cleriti in both the necrotic and non-necrotic tumor type. Aociation with patient outcome were identified for necroi and cleriti. However, thee aociation were tatitically inignificant when the prognotic effect of tumor ize wa alo conidered in a multivariate model.
