Tear in the trabecular mehwork caued by an airoft gun

PURPOE: To report a cae of a tear in the trabecular mehwork caued by an airoft gun, a toy that propel a platic bullet. METHOD: Cae report. REULT: A 7-year-old Japanee boy utained an ocular injury to the right eye from an airoft gun. Ophthalmic examination 1 hour after the injury howed a bet-corrected viual acuity in the injured eye of hand motion, corneal abraion and edema, hyphema, and commotio retinae. Goniocopy 6 day after the injury revealed a tear in the trabecular mehwork a well a an angle receion. Ultraound biomicrocopy (UBM) trongly uggeted that the tear extended into chlemm’ canal. Corneal abraion and edema, hyphema, and commotio retinae reolved over 10 day, and bet-corrected viual acuity improved to 20/15. Two month after the injury, the trabecular mehwork had not healed. CONCLUION: Airoft gun can caue a full-thickne tear in the trabecular mehwork, which may contribute to development of late-onet glaucoma. UBM i ueful to evaluate the tomographic feature of the dirupted trabecular mehwork. The potential force of airoft gun to caue ubtantial ocular injurie hould be recognized. Wearing ocular protection hould be mandatory while playing with airoft gun.
