  • Abstract
PURPOE: To determine whether the ability to document improvement in viual field after intraocular preure (IOP) reduction can be enhanced by focuing on region of the field with different level of enitivity. DEIGN: Cohort tudy. METHOD: Thi i a retropective tudy. ETTING: Yale Eye Center. TUDY POPULATION: The viual field (Octopu G2) of 30 eye of 30 patient undergoing trabeculectomy. OBERVATION PROCEDURE: Viual field were evaluated a mean of three month before and 7.8 month after urgery. MAIN OUTCOME MEAURE: Change in enitivity between the preoperative and potoperative viual field (Δ ) wa evaluated globally by comparing all 59 point of enitivity and regionally in three group according to preoperative enitivity (pre-): 25% of highet, 50% intermediate, and 25% of lowet point of enitivity. Improvement in Δ wa alo correlated with preoperative mean defect (pre-MD), percent intraocular preure (IOP) reduction (Δ IOP%), and patient’ age. REULT: ix viual field howed improvement in Δ when evaluated globally and nine howed improvement in pre- ubgroup. Of the latter, all nine howed improvement in the ubgroup with the lowet pre-, and two in the intermediate ubgroup, but none in the ubgroup with the highet pre-. Combining the ubgroup with the lowet pre- and the highet Δ IOP% wa aociated with the highet mean Δ . CONCLUION: The ability to document improvement in viual field following urgical reduction of IOP may be enhanced by focuing on ubgroup of tet point with lower baeline enitivity.
