  • Abstract
PURPOE: To determine the clinical preentation, microbiological pectrum, and outcome in cae of fungal endophthalmiti following cataract urgery. DEIGN: Obervational cae erie. METHOD: etting: Tertiary referral hopital. PATIENT: Retropective analyi of 27 cae of mear- and culture-proven fungal endophthalmiti. INTERVENTION: Par plana vitrectomy in 18 eye, where the corneal condition did not preclude the ame. All eye received intravitreal amphotericin B and dexamethaone along with ytemic antifungal agent. MAIN OUTCOME MEAURE: Functional ucce: Final viual acuity of 3/60 or better with attached retina. Anatomical ucce: Final viual acuity of better than light perception with preerved anatomy of globe. REULT: The majority of the eye (22 of the 27) had early onet and diffue preentation (that i, anterior egment a well a poterior vitreou exudate). ubtantial corneal involvement wa een in 14 eye (51.85%). Apergillu p. wa the mot common iolate. Multivariate analyi uing forward tepwie logitic regreion howed corneal involvement a the ingle mot important rik factor in determining final viual outcome (P = .0429). CONCLUION: Early onet and diffue preentation, which mimic bacterial endophthalmiti, tree the importance of both bacterial and fungal culture from intraocular fluid to reach a diagnoi apart from the clinical judgment. Corneal involvement wa the mot important predictor of outcome in cae of fungal endophthalmiti.
