Abstract
PURPOE: To decribe the clinical and hitopathologic finding of a 72-year-old female with North Carolina macular dytrophy.
METHOD: Obervational cae report with hitopathologic correlation. Clinical examination include lit-lamp biomicrocopy, indirect ophthalmocopy, color fundu photography, and focal electroretinography. Hitopathologic examination of the enucleated left eye performed with light microcopy.
REULT: Light microcopy demontrated a dicrete macular leion characterized by focal abence of photoreceptor cell and retinal pigment epithelium with attenuation of the Bruch membrane and focal atrophy of the choriocapillari. Adjacent to the macular leion, ome lipofucin wa identified in the retinal pigment epithelium.
CONCLUION: North Carolina macular dytrophy ha both clinical and microcopic appearance of a well-demarcated leion confined to the macula, which involve the retina, pigment epithelium, and choriocapillari.
