Increaed endothelin-1 plama level in giant cell arteriti: a report on four patient

PURPOE: To tet the hypothei that endothelin-1 i increaed in giant cell arteriti. METHOD: Interventional cae erie. The medical hitory of four patient who preented to the Univerity Eye Clinic Bael, witzerland, with giant cell arteriti i reported. Endothelin-1 plama level were meaured in all patient. The relevant medical literature wa reviewed. REULT: All patient preented with typical hitopathological ign of giant cell arteriti in the temporal artery biopy. The erythrocyte edimentation rate wa increaed in two patient. All patient howed ignificantly increaed endothelin-1 plama level, ranging between 3.13 to 4.82 pg/ml (reference value for female: 1.42 pg/ml ± 0.28 tandard deviation, for male: 1.67 pg/ml ± 0.34 tandard deviation). CONCLUION: The data obtained from the patient o far examined indicate that the level of circulating endothelin-1 i increaed in giant cell arteriti. The clinical relevance of uch an increae need to be further evaluated.
