Abstract
PURPOE: To report atypical anterior optic neuropathy due to toxoplamoi.
METHOD: Interventional cae report. A 33-year-old male preented with udden painle lo of viion and floater in the right eye. Examination demontrated a bet-corrected viual acuity of 20/200, optic nerve head edema, retinal hemorrhage, and vitreou opacitie.
REULT: Nine day later, a granuloma at the optic nerve head wa apparent, and the patient wa treated with pyrimethamine, ulfadiazine, folinic acid, and prednione. ix week after initiating therapy, bet-corrected viual acuity had improved to 20/25.
CONCLUION: Optic nerve involvement in toxoplamoi i uncommon and, when it occur, uually preent with a white inflammatory ma on the optic dik. The current cae demontrate the importance of including toxoplamoi in the differential diagnoi of unilateral anterior optic neuropathy, even if a focal inflammatory ma i not apparent.
