Management of medulloepithelioma of the ciliary body with brachytherapy

PURPOE: To report a cae of an adult with a ciliary body ma diagnoed a a medulloepithelioma by fine-needle apiration, confirmed by tiue biopy, and uccefully treated with brachytherapy. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: A 23-year-old white woman preented with a large ma originating in the ciliary body of the left eye. The ma, which meaured 6 × 5 × 7.6 mm, wa at the upper limit for reection. Treatment with iodine-125 brachytherapy (4,648 cGy) wa employed to debulk the ma before eyewall reection. REULT: The elevation of the ma by ultraonography 5 month after brachytherapy wa 3.9 mm with no evidence of growth during the 18-month follow-up period. CONCLUION: We report a cae in which a ciliary body medulloepithelioma treated with brachytherapy had a favorable repone through 18 month of follow-up after treatment. Thi i a ingle cae report, and longer follow-up i neceary before treatment efficacy can be fully evaluated.
