Abstract
PURPOE: To diplay the characteritic magnetic reonance imaging (MRI) abnormalitie aociated with hemifacial pam caued by compreion of the eventh cranial nerve by a dolichoectatic vertebral artery.
DEIGN: Interventional cae report.
METHOD: Correlation of imaging and clinical finding.
REULT: In a 36-year-old man with mild left hemifacial pam, MRI howed an enlarged (dolichoectatic) vertebral artery that compreed the eventh cranial nerve at it exit from the caudal pon. Manifetation of hemifacial pam were relieved with periocular botulinum toxin injection.
CONCLUION: In hemifacial pam, MRI may how compreion of the ipilateral eventh cranial nerve or other tructural abnormalitie. Relief of hemifacial pam may occur with botulinum toxin injection or with neurourgical intervention deigned to relieve the compreion.
