Retinal and choroidal vacular occluion after poterior ub-tenon triamcinolone injection

PURPOE: To report a cae of retinal and choroidal vacular occluion occurring a a complication after poterior ub-Tenon triamcinolone injection for treatment of uveitic cytoid macular edema. DEIGN: Interventional cae report. METHOD: Retropective tudy. A 32-year-old woman with uveiti and cytoid macular edema underwent a right poterior ub-Tenon injection of triamcinolone (40 mg/ml, 1 ml total) through a uperotemporal approach after topical anetheia. After the procedure, the patient experienced evere eye pain, orbital ecchymoi, and globe proptoi conitent with retrobulbar hemorrhage. REULT: Dilated fundu examination of the right eye (OD) demontrated multiple intraretinal hemorrhage with particulate white emboli occluding the retinal and choroidal veel. Viual acuity wa no light perception. Ocular maage and hypotenive therapy wa initiated for an intraocular preure of 50 mm Hg. Canthotomy and cantholyi were performed. A total of 39 month pot-incident, her viual acuity improved to 20/100. CONCLUION: Poterior ub-Tenon triamcinolone injection can rarely reult in retinal and choroidal occluion. Immediate intervention may preerve limited viual acuity.
