Abstract
PURPOE: To invetigate the preence of baic fibroblat growth factor (bFGF), glutamine ynthetae (G), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in vitreou fluid from eye with retinal detachment complicated by proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR).
DEIGN: Comparative cae erie; experimental tudy.
METHOD: In a propective tudy, we meaured bFGF, G, IL-6, and total protein in vitreou fluid ample from 53 eye from 53 conecutive patient with PVR operated on in our hopital. A control, vitreou fluid ample from eye with a macular hole (n = 9) or pucker (n = 11) were ued.
MAIN OUTCOME MEAURE: Laboratory data of the patient group were compared with the control group and correlated with variou clinical data, epecially with viual recovery and redetachment.
REULT: For IL-6, bFGF, and total protein we found ignificantly higher level in PVR patient’ eye than in control eye (P = .03, P = .046, and P < .0001, repectively). Within the PVR group, no ignificant correlation wa found for IL-6, bFGF, G, or total protein with the variou teted clinical variable.
CONCLUION: We found increaed level of IL-6, bFGF, and total protein in vitreou fluid from patient’ eye with PVR. Whether the increaed level of IL-6, bFGF, and total protein are the reult of an injury-induced upregulation of thee protein a part of a elf-protective mechanim of the retina to minimize photoreceptor damage after the mechanical injury induced by retinal detachment i, at preent, not known.
