Evaluation of pule corticoteroid therapy for vogt-koyanagi-harada dieae aeed by optical coherence tomography

PURPOE: To evaluate the rapid effect of pule corticoteroid therapy on the erou retinal detachment found at the acute phae of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae. DEIGN: Interventional cae erie. METHOD: Nine Japanee patient determined to be at the acute phae of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae with erou retinal detachment were treated with pule corticoteroid therapy. Optical coherence tomography wa ued to follow the reolution of the retinal detachment. REULT: Optical coherence tomography image howed a marked decreae in the retinal detachment immediately after the firt intravenou injection of corticoteroid and ubequent reolution. CONCLUION: The rapid improvement of erou retinal detachment aociated with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae following pule corticoteroid therapy upport an early therapeutic mechanim related to improved permeability of capillarie and permeability of the blood-retinal barrier rather than an anti-inflammatory or immunouppreive action.
