Abstract
PURPOE: To decribe a patient for whom photodynamic therapy wa ued to treat ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization econdary to rubella retinopathy.
DEIGN: Interventional cae report.
METHOD: A 36-year-old man with ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization econdary to rubella retinopathy wa treated with photodynamic therapy uing verteporfin. Outcome wa followed up with ubequent fundu examination, fluorecein angiography, and evaluation of bet-corrected viual acuity.
REULT: Two treatment of photodynamic therapy uing verteporfin reulted in involution of the neovacular membrane, reolution of ubretinal hemorrhage, and improvement in bet-corrected viual acuity from 20/200 to 20/60 2 month after the econd treatment. Owing to recurrence of active choroidal neovacularization, the patient required two more treatment of photodynamic therapy in the next 6 month, after which hi bet-corrected viual acuity wa retored to 20/60.
CONCLUION: Photodynamic therapy may be an effective treatment for ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization econdary to rubella retinopathy
