Abstract
Purpoe
To ae the effect of a pediatric eyelid peculum on the meaurement of intraocular preure (IOP) in children.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
Intraocular preure meaurement were performed during examination under anetheia immediately after induction. The meaurement were made with and without a pediatric eyelid peculum in place.
Reult
Intraocular preure meaurement were made in 77 eye of 45 conecutive children. The mean IOP without the peculum wa 16.33 mm Hg in the right eye and 16.55 mm Hg in the left eye. With the lid peculum in place the mean IOP wa 20.26 mm Hg in the right eye and 20.05 mm Hg in the left eye (P < .05).
Concluion
The preence of an eyelid peculum raied IOP an average of 4 mm Hg. Thi effect hould be conidered when interpreting IOP meaurement in children
