  • Abstract
Purpoe To evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal triamcinolone in refractory peudophakic cytoid macular edema. Deign A propective, interventional cae erie. Method Three eye of three patient with longtanding peudophakic cytoid macular edema following uncomplicated cataract urgery, refractory to any medication, were treated with 8 mg of intravitreal triamcinolone. All three eye were evaluated before injection and throughout follow-up with the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy’ viual acuity chart, fluorecein angiography, and macular mapping uing optical coherence tomography. Reult A month after intravitreal triamcinolone injection, a dramatic decreae in macular thickne wa noted by optical coherence tomography in all three eye (from a mean of 502–233 μm). Mean improvement in viual acuity wa 3.7 nellen line. Two to 4 month after triamcinolone injection, however, the edema recurred in all cae, to the ame degree a before the injection, combined with a decreae in viion. Two eye underwent a econd injection of triamcinolone, and macular thickne decreaed, but the edema again recurred 3 month after injection. Concluion Intravitreal injection of triamcinolone induce triking regreion, within 1 month, of chronic refractory macular edema. Thi regreion appear to be tranient, however, even after a econd injection.
