  • Abstract
Purpoe To evaluate the morphology of adult-onet foveomacular vitelliform dytrophy (AFVD) uing optical coherence tomography (OCT) and to correlate the OCT finding with thoe of biomicrocopy and fluorecein angiography (FA). Deign Propective obervational cae erie. Method A complete ophthalmologic examination, including viual acuity, fundu biomicrocopy, FA, and OCT wa performed in 21 eye of 14 conecutive patient with AFVD. Reult Mean age at preentation wa 64 year (range, 39 to 84 year), and bet-corrected viual acuity ranged from 20/25 to 20/400 (median 20/50). ixteen of 21 eye (11 patient) exhibited late taining of leion on FA. In thee 16 eye, OCT revealed that AFVD material conit of a hyperreflective tructure located between the photoreceptor and the retinal pigment epithelium layer. The retinal pigment epithelium layer wa linear and wa not elevated, unlike what i oberved in retinal pigment epithelium detachment. Five other eye (×4 patient) without late taining in FA howed, by OCT, a hyperreflective area at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium band, with no material viible between the photoreceptor and retinal pigment epithelium layer. In all 21 eye, the retina overlying the hyperreflective tructure wa raied by the peudovitelliform material and wa markedly thinned. Concluion Optical coherence tomography i a noninvaive ueful tool that provide new information on the morphology of AFVD. It demontrate, better than biomicrocopy, the location of the yellowih material under the enory retina but above the retinal pigment epithelium, correponding angiographically to the late taining. The foveal thinning found by OCT in all cae probably explain the progreive viual lo and poible evolution toward a full-thickne macular hole.
