Laer and proton radiation to reduce uveal melanoma–aociated exudative retinal detachment

Purpoe To ae whether laer-induced hyperthermia with proton irradiation of choroidal melanoma may decreae exudative retinal detachment more rapidly. Deign Cae control tudy. Method Patient treated with laer-induced hyperthermia and proton radiation; reult were compared with imilar patient treated with only proton. Reult All 11 patient treated with combined laer and proton therapy had reorption of ubretinal fluid with a mean duration of retinal detachment of 193 day compared with 263 day in the group treated with only proton therapy (P < .04). At 1 year, viual acuity wa imilar. Concluion Combined laer radiation more rapidly diipate exudative detachment than radiation alone.
