Abstract
Purpoe
To report polymicrobial keratiti in a patient with herpetic tromal keratiti. The initial infecting organim, Burkholderia ambifaria, ha not previouly been reported to caue microbial keratiti.
Method
Clinical evaluation and corneal culture were performed.
Reult
A 59-year-old-man undergoing topical corticoteroid therapy for herpe implex tromal keratiti developed corneal infection with B. ambifaria. The organim wa reiolated 12 day after initiation of hourly therapy with topical levofloxacin 0.5%. At reculture taphylococcu aureu and Enterococcu pp. were alo iolated. The addition of topical amikacin and vancomycin led to reolution of the microbial keratiti.
Concluion
Burkholderia ambifaria infected a compromied cornea, exhibited an unuual enitivity profile, and remained viable after 12 day of therapy with an antibiotic to which it wa enitive by in vitro tet.
