Treatment of choroidal neovacularization in central erou chorioretinopathy by photodynamic therapy with verteporfin

Purpoe To evaluate the afety and efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin in the treatment of patient with choroidal neovacularization (CNV) econdary to central erou chorioretinopathy (CC). Deign Open-label, two-center, noncomparative, propective interventional cae erie. Method Conecutive patient with ubfoveal or juxtafoveal CNV econdary to CC were recruited and treated with a tandard regimen of PDT with verteporfin. At regular 3-month follow-up examination, re-treatment wa conidered if fluorecein angiography howed evidence of leakage. Outcome meaure included the proportion of patient who had improvement (gained 2 more line), table, or lo (dropped in 2 or more line) in viion at the final follow-up and the change in bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) from baeline. Reult Ten eye of 10 patient were recruited into the tudy. The mean age of the patient wa 57.3 year with a mean follow-up duration of 12.6 month. At the lat follow-up, ix (60%) eye gained 2 or more line of BCVA with four (40%) patient having final BCVA of within 1 line. No patient lot 2 or more line of BCVA. The mean logarithm of the minimal angle of reolution BCVA improvement after PDT wa 2.4 line (Wilcoxon igned-rank tet, P = .013). No patient uffered eriou ocular or ytemic complication from PDT. Concluion Photodynamic therapy with verteporfin therapy i a afe and well-tolerated treatment in patient with CNV aociated with CC. A randomized, controlled trial with a longer follow-up period i warranted to further tudy the efficacy of PDT in the management of CNV econdary to CC.
