Quetionnaire urvey on periodic ocular examination in Japanee diabetic patient

Purpoe To identify the reaon why diabetic patient do not undergo periodic examination. Deign Cohort tudy. Method A quetionnaire urvey of 1,333 Japanee type 2 diabetic patient wa conducted at Tokyo Women’ Medical Univerity. Performance of ocular examination wa invetigated over 5 year and the reaon for not undergoing examination were analyzed. Reult Periodic ocular examination wa performed in 69.5% of patient, but not in 30.5%. The quetionnaire urvey howed that phyician uually explained the rik of ocular complication and recommended periodic examination. More than 98% of the patient were aware of diabetic eye dieae. Multivariate logitic regreion analyi howed the main reaon for kipping examination a a reaon wa that patient believed they had no diabetic retinopathy. Concluion Patient hould be informed about the neceity of receiving periodic ocular examination even if they do not yet have retinopathy.
