Decreae of pigment epithelium-derived factor in aqueou humor with increaing age

Purpoe To determine whether the level of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) in the aqueou humor i altered with age. Deign Obervational cae erie. Method The PEDF concentration in the aqueou humor wa meaured by enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay in 152 eye of 121 patient who underwent cataract urgery. Reult The mean aqueou level of PEDF wa 0.86 ± 0.04 μg/ml (mean ± tandard error, 70.7 ± 1.0 year). The PEDF level decreaed with increaing age, and the decreae wa ignificantly correlated with age (Pearon product moment correlation coefficient, r = − 0.22, P = .006). The mean PEDF level in the men (0.76 ± 0.06 μg/ml, 53 eye, 71.5 ± 2.0 year) wa ignificantly lower than that in women (0.91 ± 0.04 μg/ml, 99 eye, 70.2 ± 1.1 year, P = .03). Concluion The negative correlation of PEDF level and age hould be conidered in age-related eye dieae, epecially thoe aociated with angiogenei.
