Abstract
Purpoe
To determine the concentration of pigment epithelium–derived factor (PEDF) in the aqueou humor of eye with neuroretinal dytrophy.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
Aqueou humor wa obtained from patient during cataract urgery, and the PEDF concentration in the aqueou humor wa meaured by enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay. The primary diagnoi wa cataract in 162 eye; of thee there were five eye with retiniti pigmentoa, nine eye with advanced glaucoma, and 148 eye with cataract alone.
Reult
The mean level of PEDF in eye with retiniti pigmentoa (0.24 ± 0.04 μg/ml, mean ± E, P = .0004) and advanced glaucoma (0.46 ± 0.08 μg/ml, P = .003) were ignificantly lower than that in eye with cataract alone (0.86 ± 0.04 μg/ml).
Concluion
The lower level of PEDF in eye with neuroretinal dytrophy may be related to the lo of the retinal ganglion cell or retinal pigment epithelium cell that yntheize PEDF.
