Herpe implex viru keratiti in children

Purpoe To decribe the pectrum and recurrence of herpe implex viru (HV) keratiti in children and adolecent. Deign Retropective cohort tudy. Method Twenty-three patient younger than age 16 year were diagnoed with HV keratiti at one intitution. Reult All children preented with dendritic or punctate epithelial keratiti, and tromal keratiti occurred concurrently with epithelial keratiti in 14 patient (61%). ix patient (26%) had bilateral HV keratiti. Eleven patient (48%) developed recurrent HV keratiti at a median of 15 month after the firt documented epiode. Amblyopia occurred in three children. Concluion Children with herpetic keratiti may have bilateral ocular involvement and are at rik for recurrent keratiti and amblyopia.
