Prevalence of factor XIII Val34Leu polymorphim in patient affected by pontaneou ubconjunctival hemorrhage

Purpoe To verify the prevalence of Val34Leu polymorphim in factor XIII A-chain gene (FXIII Val34Leu) in patient with pontaneou ubconjunctival hemorrhage (CH). Deign Nonrandomized cae-control tudy. Method One hundred even white patient uffering from one or more epiode of idiopathic CH and 107 healthy ubject were matched for age and gender, and genotyped for FXIII Val34Leu. Anamnetic, ophthalmologic, cardiovacular, and erologic examination were performed. Reult Frequency of FXIII mutated allele (Leu34) wa ignificantly higher in CH patient than in control. Computing together heterozygote (Val/Leu) and homozygote (Leu/Leu), genotype ditribution wa tatitically different. In a conditional logitic regreion model, the comparion of the three eparated genotype, performed among 25 patient with recurrent idiopathic CH and control, gave ignificant difference for both Val/Leu and Leu/Leu variable. Concluion Both homozygoity and heterozygoity for FXIII Val34Leu predipoe to idiopathic CH, emphaizing the role of Leu34 allele a inherited rik factor for pontaneou, epecially recurrent, CH.
