Purpoe To report macular hole formation among ibling within four familie. Deign Obervational cae erie. Method Four familie were identified who had macular hole among ibling from within three multiphyician tertiary-care referral retina practice. Reult In the firt family, two iter in their eventh decade developed tage 2 macular hole requiring urgical intervention; two male ibling were unaffected. In a econd family, three of four ibling were affected, including one brother with a tage 4 macular hole, one iter with a tage 3 macular hole, and a third iter with a lamellar macular hole. In a third family, two ibling (one man, one woman) developed macular hole within 1 year of each other. Three year later, the male ibling developed a macular hole in the fellow eye. In the lat family, twin iter developed macular hole (unilateral in one iter, bilateral in the other), and their deceaed father may alo have had bilateral macular hole. Concluion The occurrence of macular hole in thee four et of ibling ugget a poible genetic component in the formation of macular hole in thee individual.
