Abstract
Purpoe
To evaluate the efficacy of lidocaine tape in reducing pain during botulinum toxin injection.
Deign
Randomized double-blind tudy.
Method
ix men and four women with a diagnoi of Meige yndrome undergoing botulinum toxin injection were recruited.Lidocaine tape wa applied to the eyelid kin of a randomly elected eye and placebo tape to the other eye. Pain during botulinum toxin injection wa evaluated ubjectively by a viual analogue cale. ide effect were alo monitored.
Reult
Mean ubjective pain both on puncturing kin and on injection in the lidocaine group wa ignificantly lower than that in the placebo group. Nine of 10 patient found lidocaine tape to be more effective than placebo tape in reducing pain during injection.
Concluion
Lidocaine tape i a imple and convenient method of reducing pain during botulinum toxin injection. Thi method i recommended for patient reluctant to receive thi treatment becaue of pain during injection.
