  • Abstract
Purpoe To ae the role of cardiovacular morbidity, it rik factor, and microalbuminuria in the development of inflammatory cytoid macular edema (CME). Deign A matched cae-control tudy. Method tudy population: We included 24 conecutive patient with uveiti and CME. Twenty four uveiti patient without CME, matched for age and duration of uveiti erved a control. intervention and obervation procedure: Patient and control were interviewed for the preence of cardiovacular rik factor and cardiovacular morbidity. All medication were regitered. Morning urinary albumin concentration wa meaured, a well a blood preure, C-reactive protein, and creatinine in blood. Patient uffering from diabete mellitu were excluded from thi tudy. main outcome meaure: The preence of cardiovacular morbidity and it rik factor and microalbuminuria in uveiti patient with and without CME. Reult We found a poitive aociation between trace- and/or microalbuminuria and inflammatory CME (P = .001; odd ratio 13.0, 95% CI 2.5 to 68.1 and P = .015; odd ratio 5.9, 95% CI 1.6 to 22.6), but no relation between CME and cardiovacular morbidity or it rik factor. No additional aociation between trace- and/or any microalbuminuria and general characteritic of patient, pecific factor related to general dieae a a caue of ocular inflammation, location of uveiti, duration of uveiti, and medication wa found. Concluion The preence of trace- and/or microalbuminuria in inflammatory CME might indicate the preence of early ytemic vacular dieae and carry the rik of developing CME. Thi finding bring new inight into the pathogenei of CME and could open up new avenue for the treatment of CME.
