  • Abstract
Purpoe To decribe eviceration via uperior temporal equatorial clerotomy with preervation of the cornea a an alternative technique. Deign Retropective cae erie. Method Record of 31 conecutive patient who underwent eviceration via uperior temporal equatorial clerotomy between November 1996 and November 2002 were reviewed. Patient age ranged from 1 to 79 year (mean, 27.93 year). Poterior clerotomie were performed in 14 eye (45%). The urgical indication, prior ocular urgerie, complication, cornea alteration, cornea enitivitie, ize and material of the implant, and the motility of the globe with and without prothei were evaluated. Reult Average follow-up wa 31.68 month (range, 5-77 month). No intraoperative complication occurred. One patient had late-term pain due to partial implant extruion from the melted cornea. All cornea remained clear until the 1t month after urgery. After the 2nd month ome cornea became emiopaque (61%) and totally opaque (16%). even cornea remained clear (23%). Cornea vacularization tarted in the econd week poturgery in all patient. It wa limited peripherally in ix patient and moved forward to the central part in 25 patient. No patient had corneal enation. In one cae, keratiti occurred at month 13 poturgery; in another, conjunctival dehicence in the uperior temporal region wa noted, 26 month after urgery, due to eotropia reulting from preure exerted on the region by the prothei. Globe motility wa atifactory in all patient. Concluion Implant motility i atifactory and the implant expoure rate i low with thi technique.
