  • Abstract
    Purpoe To report a cae of unilateral keratoconu in a 7- year-old female, econdary to chronic peritent eye-rubbing in the abence of any ytemic condition. Deign Obervational cae report. Method In the cae of thi child, no organic caue wa found to explain the onet of keratoconu other than peritent eye-rubbing in the affected eye. Reult Nocturnal eye padding wa intigated and the condition tabilized. he wa reviewed over a 2-year period of follow-up. Concluion Eye-rubbing ha been implicated in the pathogenei of keratoconu. Eye-rubbing i alo often a feature of a number of condition linked to keratoconu uch a Down yndrome, atopic keratoconjunctiviti, mental retardation, and Leber’ congenital amauroi. There are a number of report linking eye-rubbing and keratoconu in children, typically in relation to thee condition. However, in thi cae the keratoconu wa econdary to chronic and peritent eye-rubbing in a healthy child.
