Abstract
Purpoe
To decribe the effect of the antitumor necroi factor (TNF) monoclonal antibody Infliximab ytemic therapy on choroidal neovaculariation (CNV) econdary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Deign
Propective, noncomparative erie of three patient.
Method
A ubretinal membrane econdary to AMD wa documented by fluoroangiography at baeline in three elderly patient cheduled to receive Infliximab therapy for inflammatory arthriti (infuion of 5 mg/kg at week 0, 2, 6, and every 8 week thereafter). Follow-up wa performed at three month pot-baeline, a well a during 18 month of continuing treatment in the firt patient.
Reult
CNV regreed partially at three month and reolved at ix month in the firt patient. Bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) increaed from 0.05 to 0.2; thi effect wa utained at 18 month. Regreion of ubretinal membrane and increae of BCVA wa alo documented in the other patient. No ocular or extra-ocular ide effect were noted.
Concluion
Thee finding ugget a plauible pathogenetic role of TNF in CNV econdary to AMD. Additional patient hould be tudied to confirm the promiing clinical reult.
