Failure of ytemic antibiotic in preventing equential endogenou endophthalmiti of a bronchiectai patient

Purpoe To report a rare preentation of bilateral, equential Peudomona aeruginoa endogenou endophthalmiti in a woman with bronchiectai. Deign Interventional cae report. Method A 69-year-old woman with bronchiectai developed right and then left endogenou endophthalmiti with the microbial of P. aeruginoa, even though a coure of 3-week intravenou ceftazidime antibiotic wa precribed. Reult The preentation of endogenou endophthalmiti in the right eye wa late, and final viual acuity wa hand movement. The condition wa recognized much earlier in the left eye, and the infection wa treated early on with vitrectomy and intravitreal antibiotic. Viual acuity at 1 year wa table at 20/40. Concluion ytemic antibiotic failed to eradicate the primary ource of Peudomona infection in the bronchiectai patient. Unuual, painful red eye may be the preenting feature of endogenou endophthalmiti. Early vitrectomy may be conidered in endogenou endophthalmiti caued by virulent pathogen uch P. aeruginoa.
