Verteporfin photodynamic therapy for the treatment of peritent ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization after external beam radiotherapy: One-year reult

Purpoe To determine the afety and efficacy of verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of peritent choroidal neovacularization (CNV) previouly treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). Deign Retropective cae erie. Method Verteporfin PDT wa performed on 14 eye of 13 patient with ymptomatic leakage from CNV previouly treated by EBRT. Principal outcome meaure were: comparion of viual acuity at 12 month pot-PDT with baeline and the recording of any ocular or ytemic advere event. Reult At baeline, the mean logMAR (±D) VA wa 0.81 ± 0.33, wherea at the 12-month point it wa 0.89 ± 0.43 (P = .326). At the 12-month examination 10 eye had lot le than 3 line of VA, and 8 eye had lot le than 1.5 line. During thi time, there were 2.1 PDT treatment eion per eye on average (range = 1 to 4). There were no ocular or ytemic advere event recorded. Concluion Thi hort-term tudy how that verteporfin PDT i afe after EBRT and may be of benefit for recalcitrant CNV.
