  • Abstract
Purpoe To tudy the vitreoretinal relationhip in diabetic patient with and without diabetic macular edema (DME) uing optical coherence tomography. Deign Retropective cae-control tudy. Method etting: Intitutional practice. patient: Thirty-five conecutive diabetic patient (49 eye) with DME and 35 ex- and age-matched diabetic control patient without DME (49 eye). obervation procedure: All patient had Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy viual acuity meaurement and biomicrocopic examination of the vitreoretinal interface. OCT wa performed to obtain cro-ectional image of the vitreoretinal interface of the macular region. Poterior vitreou detachment (PVD) wa taged from 0 to 3 a follow: tage 0: abence of PVD; tage 1: perifoveolar PVD with foveolar attachment; tage 2: incomplete PVD with reidual attachment to the optic nerve; and tage 3: complete PVD. Retinal thickne wa meaured uing OCT mapping oftware in all cae. main outcome meaure: Prevalence of the different PVD tage in both group of eye. Reult The mean age of the patient wa 60 year in both group. Of the eye with macular edema, 19 (38.8%) were tage 0, 26 (53.0%) tage 1, 1 (2.0%) wa tage 2, and 3 (6.2%) were tage 3. In eye without DME, the correponding figure were, repectively, 34 (69.4%), 11 (22.4%), 1 (2.0%), and 3 (6.2%). The prevalence of perifoveolar PVD with foveolar attachment wa ignificantly higher in the group of eye with DME (P =.006). Concluion Thee reult how the high prevalence of perifoveolar PVD with foveolar attachment in diabetic patient with macular edema. Even though PVD i not the main factor involved in the pathogenei of DME, perifoveolar PVD may have a role in the development of thi complication.
