Abstract
Purpoe
The purpoe of thi tudy wa to evaluate the toxicity and photodynamic activity of indocyanine green (ICG) and trypan blue (TryB) on cultured human lenepithelial cell (LEC).
Deign
Experimental tudy.
Method
Len epithelial cell viability wa aeed after treatment with ICG and TryB concentration ranging from 0.025 to 5.0 mg/ml, and expoure to 806 nm diode laer.
Reult
At ICG concentration below 0.5 mg/ml, there wa ≥75% cell viability; at higher ICG concentration there wa doe-dependent cytotoxicity in addition to lo of cellular viability due to ICG photoenitization. TryB had little cytotoxicity to the LEC: >80% cell were viable irrepective of the dye concentration or laer treatment.
Concluion
Thee data indicate that ICG may have application a a photoenitizer in the elective eradication of reidual LEC after cataract urgery to reduce the incidence of poterior capule opacification.
