Abstract
Purpoe
To ae the accuracy of the Lang II tereotet in creening for trabimu, amblyopia, and aniometropia in 6-year-old children.
Deign
Cro-ectional population-baed tudy.
Method
The ydney Myopia tudy examined 1765 6-year-old children (78.9% of eligible) who were identified by random cluter ampling of 34 chool in ydney, Autralia. enitivity and pecificity of the Lang II tereotet wa determined by bet tereoacuity. Cycloplegic autorefraction, aement of viual acuity, and ocular motility were conducted.
Reult
Tet enitivity ranged from 21.4% for aniometropia (≥1.0 diopter) to 31.3% for amblyopia. The detection rate for new cae of amblyopia ranged from 20% to 40%; the detection rate for new cae of trabimu wa 30%. pecificity wa >98% in all three condition. Children with fale-negative reult included newly diagnoed cae of trabimu (14 of 25 children) or amblyopia (5 of 12 children).
Concluion
The Lang II tereotet, when ued alone, ha very limited value a a creening tet of binocular dyfunction
