Accuracy of Referencing in the Ophthalmic Literature

Purpoe To invetigate the frequency of citation and quotation error in the ophthalmic literature. Deign Analyi of 200 reference from 100 paper publihed in 10 ophthalmic journal. Method A ample of 20 reference wa randomly elected from each of the 10 journal and each reference wa checked for accuracy. Quotation were categorized a totally, partially, or not accurate. Reult There were 35 citation error in 32 reference, only four of which were error in PubMed. Thirty quotation of reference were not accurate; 20 were partially accurate. Concluion Citation and quotation error are relatively common within the ophthalmic literature. Thi may be improved through technical editing
