Abstract
Purpoe
The purpoe of thi tudy i to document the preence of fibrovacular ingrowth into the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) a a caue of AGV failure in the pediatric population.
Deign
Retropective cae erie.
Method
Retropective tudy of ix children with hitologically documented fibrovacular ingrowth of their AGV, with review of relevant demographic, clinical, and urgical factor.
Reult
ix patient, two male and four female, with a mean age at AGV placement of 27.5 month (range 1 to 122) were identified with AGV failure, AGV removal, and ubequent hitology documenting fibrovacular ingrowth into the valve chamber. Etiology of glaucoma included: trauma, aphakia, angle-cloure, aniridia, and infantile. Mean time from AGV implantation to explantation wa 23 month (range 6 to 65). Mean intraocular preure at AGV explantation wa 35 mm Hg (range 27 to 48).
Concluion
Fibrovacular ingrowth of both the pediatric and adult ize AGV occur in children and hould be conidered in the preence of AGV failure.
