Abstract
Purpoe
To invetigate the effect of the timing of the cleral flap uture releae on the afety and long-term ucce of phacotrabeculectomy.
Deign
Retropective, nonrandomized chart review.
Method
We tudied 173 eye of 173 conecutive patient who underwent primary phacotrabeculectomy, with or without intraoperative mitomycin-C, and ubequent cleral flap uture releae.
Reult
Early uture releae (<3 week) had a lower long-term ucce rate than late uture releae (>3 week), with an average follow-up period of 44.8 month. Patient who ued mitomycin-C had tatitically later uture releae than did patient without mitomycin-C. There were nine cae of hypotony, for which independent rik factor were early uture releae and the ue of mitomycin-C.
Concluion
Greater long-term ucce with minimal complication wa achieved when cleral flap uture releae wa performed three week after phacotrabeculectomy. uture releae within three week after urgery wa aociated with an increaed rik of filtration failure and a higher rik of potoperative complication.
