Abstract
Purpoe
An aociation between hypermetropia and hypertenion wa recently reported. We ought to verify thi finding in the Blue Mountain Eye tudy cohort (n = 3654; age 49 to 97 year).
Deign
Cohort tudy.
Method
We defined hypermetropia a mean pheric equivalent refraction (ER) >1.00 diopter, myopia a mean ER <−1.00 diopter, and emmetropia a mean ER ≤1.00 diopter and ≥−1.00 diopter, incluive. We ued the 2003 World Health Organization/International ociety of Hypertenion guideline to define evere hypertenion a grade 2 or higher.
Reult
Of 1290 people who were at rik of the development of hypertenion, 378 people developed incident evere hypertenion after five year. The multivariate-adjuted relative rik of incident hypertenion in peron with hypermetropia compared with thoe with emmetropia wa 1.06 (95% CI, 0.89 to 1.26); the relative rik in peron with myopia wa 1.22 (95% CI, 0.96 to 1.56).
Concluion
Neither hypermetropia nor myopia wa aociated with incident hypertenion in thi older population.
