Modification of creening Criteria for Retinopathy of Prematurity in India and Other Middle-Income Countrie

Purpoe To determine the getational age and birth weight of premature babie who developed viion-threatening evere retinopathy of prematurity. Deign Propective obervational tudy of babie at rik of blindne due to retinopathy of prematurity. Method Data pertaining to all babie who underwent laer treatment or urgery for acute retinopathy of prematurity and thoe who had cicatricial retinopathy of prematurity were propectively collected. The getational age and birth weight were evaluated to etablih creening criteria. Reult In 120 babie, the mean getational age wa 29.6 week (range 26 to 36 week). The birth weight of 115 babie ranged from 710 to 2000 g (mean 1254.5 g, D 280.8). Birth weight wa not available for five babie. Only one baby had a getational age of >35 week. Concluion Ocular morbidity related to retinopathy of prematurity wa een in bigger and more mature babie. Thi tudy provide a cientific bai for etablihing creening criteria for retinopathy of prematurity in outh India and other middle-income countrie.
